What is Hypnobirthing and why use it?

The web is awash with the ‘what if’s’ and ‘why-for’s’ of Hypnobirthing and that’s a very good thing! So rather than list the benefits here (you really can find a gazillion lists on Google), I thought i’d summarise in my own words why I honestly believe Hypnobirthing is worth doing and why is matters that you do:

  1. Hypnosis helps to process unconscious anxieties and fears and boost confidence. Imagine seeing your pregnancy for what it is and enjoying it, actually looking forward to birth and feeling empowered to embrace labour at every turn in order to bring your baby into this world?

  2. I did it - and if I can, so can can you. I mean that. There’s nothing special or different about me. Same goes for the thousands of women using Hypnobirthing every day. You Can Too.

  3. It’s not just about natural labour and birth. You can use the techniques for every birth, and they can and will have a positive effect on both you and importantly, your baby. (I’ve personally used it for a natural home-birth and a planned early C-Section for my twins and i wish i’d known about it before I had my first in hospital).

  4. As a Hypnotherapist, I understand that Hypnosis is as old as the human race and is a natural state that we all go in and out of all the time. No trickery here; and you don’t need to be a hypnotherapist to learn simple ways to get yourself into a hypnotic state. It’s a state of concentration and focus, of absorbing information and using this to our advantage. You are in control at all times. You decide. If you are motivated and believe, it will work. If you are not, it won’t. Simple.

  5. Practice makes perfect - and when you repeatedly practice the wonderful feel-good techniques, not only do you enjoy the process (and your pregnancy and birth) more, but you also have new, powerful skills for life and a mindset in a “better” place to boot.

  6. Obviously, it’s not just about the psychology of birth. The physiological aspect is vital and by understanding the link between the body and the brain, we can easily see how and why our bodies have been designed to grow and birth a baby.

  7. Did I mention ‘Life Skills”? You’ll find yourself becoming aware of your emotional, mental and physical approach to giving birth. You will be able to use these techniques and approach with everyday life and especially your transformation into parenting and more. It becomes automatic; learning to focus on what you want, not what you don’t want and calming your nervous system. How cool is that?!
